This film could have been a 21st century version of the old film, it wasn't. If that is what you want to watch, do not watch this film! Even if the old computer hadn't have turned up to save day, this would still, in my opinion, be a very very cheesy flick.. This movie is a serious waste of time, I was hoping that as far as a sequel goes, it could join the ranks of some of the other movies in my books that are better than the first ex: Terminator 2, Aliens, and Tremors 2 but in comparison to the original this was horrible.
Same thing pretty much happened in the first which could be suspected, new program with a different setting for the current time , but it just felt like everything in this movie was just done so poorly, when you thought things could have been better than the first. Overall: Don't even bother, unless you are desperate to kill time and paddle ball isn't cutting anymore after 1, straight hits. And this so-called "movie" rates really high on that list!
Cheap and insulting from start to finish, with a few halfway decent moments and actors buried in the under-lit Hi-Def videography and uninspired CGI work. While the original WAR GAMES may not be a film classic it was at least a fun, fairly smart for the time adventure about the risks of automating military actions, with computer hackers as the new heroes.
It also had a good A-Minus movie cast who added a great deal to the humor, drama and romance, and was well-directed by John Badham. It's so cheap that showing the out-of-control military computer, R. While stars Matt Lanter and Amanda Walsh are both very pretty people and do all right given what they have to work with, the rest of the film feels like nobody could decide if they were doing a comedy-adventure, a College Kid Romance, a thriller about Homeland Security overreach, or a conspiracy movie.
I think this could've been a decent movie, and some of its parts are OK Same about the plot, parts are OK but it has several holes and oddities that doesn't quite add up.
Acting is mostly OK, I've seen worse of this too. It gets slightly better from there, but not much. If you're gonna rent this, get another one too and use this one as a warm-up. Keep expectations low and it might work for you. UnisausS1 18 March Everyone says it's a bad movie, or the worst movie they've ever seen! Some considered it a B movie! It's not the worst movie, I've seen worse! To consider this movie a B movie, it's still way up there in ranks!
Keeping it up with the times compared to the past! This movie is mostly chase scenes and special effects. It is very weak on plot. Most of the computer talk was just mumbo-jumbo. I watched this because I was a big fan of the original War Games movie which was based mostly on computer fact and real computer terminology. This movie had none of that. Most of the computer scenes were not only impossible and highly unrealistic of real computers and networks, but just lame.
It is like it was written by somebody who has no comprehension of real computers. The ripley game was lame and was essentially just an arcade game. No real hacking, so what was the point? Movie was boring.
Lame sequel. Thank God I watched this at a friend's place and did not pay for it. The plot is horribly transparent and the whole movie felt like an episode of a TV show. If you have any knowledge of computers or electronics, watch out. You will feel feel like the movie is an insult to your intelligence. She's lucky that Matt Lanter is actually decent. He's the one that carries the movie. I hate that I wasted nearly two hours of my life watching this movie!
It's a shame that they got to call it a sequel, because I was a fan of the original, which was actually pretty good. I actually watched this movie on TV. I was and still am a big fan of the original War Games movie. Just to think it was made so long ago in It was fantastic. But I can't say the same about this one. The first half of this one, is OK. It builds up to many scenarios, already seen in other movies cliches , as a Computer gone wild taking control of things its own way, an army I think it was guy wild about his project, etc But then, the 2nd half just lost it.
No plot, no idea of how to develop it or end it. Too many "Its Over" scenes only for Reply to rise again. It got boring after a couple of them. I felt it was a waste of time.
I will try and rent the original movie again, if I can find it This is a PERFECT example of what happens when you have morons sitting in a cubicle somewhere, not finding new scripts that have any creativity to them I KNOW!!! The Mom with a cold? The kid's colleagues?
ZERO acting chops. This movie is more than derivative. If the original "War Games" never came out, this film would still be considered a bad idea unworthy of being put to celluloid or whatever medium they use these days.
This was a bad idea from the git-go. EsterFranz 27 March Just plain good old stupid. I mean really stupid, not the good stupid like Killer Tomatoes, or Ed Wood movies, this is probably the most stupid movie I ever have seen. To give this movie an golden Turkey is an insult to turkeys. To call this movie dumb is offensive even to dumb people. If this is the future of American cinema and art we are better off to really start world war 3 and 4 at the same time and let the cockroaches run the show after.
Now I have to get drunk to wash this insult to my single braincell off This is a really good movie if you are suicidal. An error has occured. Please try again. Create a list ». Playing Videogames. Movies about Video games.

On paper it ticks all the right boxes: the cold war has become the war in Afghanistan, the WOPR has been replaced by the more capable RIPLEY, and another teenager has started a chain of events by playing a game this time on the Internet.
As an update to the original it almost succeeds. Matt Lanter is believable as the unfortunate teenager, and Amanda Walsh was a good choice for his love interest but they are no Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy.
Gary Reineke does what he can, but sadly he doesn't quite capture the charisma of the original Falken, reducing him to a mac clad stalker for most of the film. In short the ensemble cast do what they can, but it doesn't quite measure up to the original. This is not an awful film. It has a definite "made-for-video" feel to it, but there are far worse ways to spend minutes. There are a few nods to the original, but it's a shame the film makers totally missed the point of tic-tac-toe being an unwinnable game.
