They made history by becoming the first British based band to perform at the world renowned Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York. But while the band embraced the opportunity and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Chicago, the frantic pace of their meteoric rise in the U. Musically, the magic remained, yet, the tell-tale signs of tiredness, tetchiness and being away from home for long periods of time began to show.

The 3rd album, Promised Heights was released in , through Contempo Records in England, where hindsight has shown that their music arrived in the U. They are one of the most sampled black British bands of all time.

They arrived in London, England from Guyana and Jamaica and developed a subtle, deep funk style heavily influenced by calypso rhythms, jazz, African music, and American soul. By the mid '70s the band members were going their separate ways.

It wasn't until 20 years later that they reaped any financial rewards, as their music became a popular source for samplers. The Fugees sampled "Dove" for the title track of their second album, "The Score" in The list goes on and on, and it's obvious why: Cymande are the shit.
